Salem Willamette Eyes, Ears, Nose and Throat Clinic
Salem, Oregon
The Doctors at Willamette Ear Nose and Throat Clinic in Salem, Oregon did what they could to make their business earth friendly. When it was time to expand staff parking they insisted it on low impact pavement. They looked a pervious asphalt and pervious unit pavers but selected pervious concrete.
Pervious concrete can be cleaned easier than unit pavers. Concrete can be flushed with water or blown off quickly with a leaf blower. Unit pavers depend on gravel around the pavers to drain water so flushing and blowing makes a mess. Hot summer days are hard on pervious asphalt. Pervious concrete cannot melt even on the hottest summer day.
The new Willamette ENT concrete pavement allows 100% of the rainwater to filter back into the ground like pre-existing conditions before paving. Better pervious concrete physically fights global warming because its light color reflects hot sun during the day keeping the temperature 7 to 14 degrees cooler. At night those same light colors help reflect 30% more light than asphalt so fewer expensive light poles and lower power bills help save money and the environment.
