Salem Pringle Community Center
Salem, Oregon
The 2007-8 Excellence in Concrete Award for pervious concrete was awarded to LM Construction, Brush Prairie, WA and evolution Paving Resources for their collaboration on this high profile environmental project in Salem, Oregon. This award was presented by the Oregon Concrete and Aggregate Producers Association and the Oregon Chapter of the American Concrete Institute. The project included pervious concrete pavement in the town center. Zero runoff pavements and low impact homes are helping the City to achieve the goal to create an entire development with businesses and residences that meet or exceed Platinum status in the Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) program.
Light colored pervious concrete used here was made with 35% recycled cement content and provides at least 11° Fahrenheit cooler temperatures on 80° days, and because of its brighter color it requires less night lighting, reducing ongoing energy costs. Evolution Paving Resources created a structural pervious concrete test pavement 3 years prior to construction to aid in its design.
